Hotpoint has created a new range of digital irons: four indispensable satellites that combine unique design with features, performance and technology that gives a unique experience.

The Digi Iron collection is the flagship of the brand’s aesthetics and functionality and is presented in blue and white with metallic elements.

Elegant and flowing lines complement the style of the appliances, showing the speed and ease of ironing thanks to aesthetics, while the soft handle guarantees comfort and convenience.

The initial concept was developed by the legendary design studio “Makio Hasuike & Co”, then the project was handed over to me and the design manager overseeing the project. We worked on the project until it was released and started selling in Europe and Russia.

Goal

The goal of the project was to take the basic concept of the irons line from a leading Italian studio, refine the design and bring the products to mass production.

Layouts of the first conceptual design:

Implementation and research

After receiving information on the status of the project, an analysis of the relevant materials and problems was carried out, as a result of which all shortcomings were identified.

Internal components and electronics do not fit into the dimensions of the concept design.
Some solutions are not suitable for industrial production. The design should be enriched with details.

We conducted market research online and in electronic stores, studied trends and bestsellers in the field of ironing. The study determined the difference between irons and steamers.

Modelling

Development of new 3D models, improvement of their proportions, taking into account ergonomics and internal components. Carrying out modification and detailing of the concept until the product is fully developed.

Determining the position of all infographics and logos on irons. Developing a design from several considerations that describe the specific functions of irons.

Interfaces

Work on product interfaces, creating missing icons, optimizing the graphic composition.

Layouts

Preparation of files and materials for prototypes, control of layout development.

Design Manufacturing

Working hard to get high-quality and reliable products. Multiple iterations of engineering reviews in collaboration with a Chinese manufacturer.

Comparison between the first engineering 3D model and the final result:

Engineers work on complex surfaces covered with a three-dimensional pattern of the Hotspot brand. We develop them and transfer them to the factory for integration into production CAD models.

Result

As a result, all the problems of industrial design were solved, up to the released series.
The surfaces are adapted to accommodate internal components and electronics without aesthetic and ergonomic losses.

The design is worked out in every detail, including the placement of graphics and the development of some icons.
Photorealistic visualizations for packaging and marketplaces are created and widely used.

Stylistic unity is achieved between the iron and the steamer. Even their overall and detailed dimensions are completely different, and there is not a single repeating surface.

Design solutions have been improved and adapted for production.
Work on the production of models, as well as design and production, led to an excellent result.
