WATCH
The PV32 is a compact stabilized camera capable of recording in both the visible and thermal ranges, designed for the Geoscan 201 drone.
When inactive, it is completely retracted into the fuselage of the drone using a folding mechanism. A hybrid zoom system based on multiple fixed lens sensors provides functionality in a minimal form factor.
TASK
The Geoscan team commissioned us to develop the industrial design of the PV32 camera for the Geoscan 201 drone, which combines 4K cameras and infrared cameras in the visible spectrum and is equipped with three types of lenses – wide-angle, narrow-angle and ultra-narrow-angle with support for optical and hybrid zoom, which allows you to record and view objects in detail at a distance of up to 2km.
By the time they approached us, they already had a technical prototype, but they needed a design that visually and functionally harmonized with the aerodynamic shape of the drone, reflected the system’s corporate identity, and met the technical requirements for durability, assembly, field use, and manufacturability.
CONCEPT
Development began with two concepts, differing in detail, form expression, and branding. First with a dark CMF, which corresponds to the camera of the Pollux drone, which we developed earlier.
CONCEPT 1
Features a clear geometry with a protruding front, a thicker LED ring, and a concentric radiator pattern at the rear. The logo is located on both sides. The design emphasizes the technical character and provides a visual identity to the drone system.
CONCEPT 2
A minimalist solution with a slimmer LED ring and a rear radiator with vertical geometry. The logo is located at the top, next to the place where the drone is attached. The shape is smoother, with an emphasis on visual clarity and integration with the aerodynamic design of the drone.
RESULT
The final design is a combination of both concepts: it inherits the fluid geometry and minimalism of one version, as well as the bold LED ring, the side placement of the logo, and the vertical ventilation at the back of the other. The result is a camera with a precise, technologically advanced design that not only fits harmoniously into the overall appearance of Geoscan drones, but also stands out from the competition as a standalone product.
The design pays special attention to visual integration with the Geoscan 201 platform: the camera geometry matches the contours of the drone, and all joints and panels are arranged in such a way as to create the impression of integrity. The goal was not to create an autonomous device, but to create a precise embedded module that would look and work as an integral part of the drone system.
A neat plastic cap that protects the expensive lenses from accidental damage is easy to put on and take off thanks to the magnetic attachment, while the Geoscan logo, neatly placed on the front surface, emphasizes the attention to detail and pride in a unique and high-quality product.
