PF1B is a design project of a camera designed for aerial photography and mapping from UAVs.
It features an ergonomic design, compatibility with the Geoscan Gemini quadcopter and the ability to tilt the camera up to 48 degrees.

TASK

The goal was to develop a new body for an aerial camera based on Sony a5100 components, focusing on aesthetics, ergonomics and functionality. The main problem was that the internal components of the camera could not be modified.

Despite this limitation, it was necessary to develop a design that would allow the camera to rotate 48 degrees within the existing strictly limited space not originally designed for such movement. This solution was supposed to provide mechanical stability when operating the drone, precise tilt adjustment (24°/48°) and full compatibility with the Geoscan Gemini quadcopter mounting system.

CONCEPT

Due to the complexity of the task, we decided to develop only one concept that met all the key criteria, with a further plan for its refinement and improvement, if it is approved.

Geoscan prints the layout and approves the concept design, providing a number of suggestions for further detailing and simplifying the assembly process.

DETAILING

Add recesses designed to make it easy for the screwdriver to pass between the camera and the front screen of the helicopter.

As well as decorative details on the side surfaces, preserving those designed to support the geometry already used in the helicopter.

Experimenting with ventilation of the top surface using the parametric scheme defined with Grasshopper.

Choose the best solution with a noticeable golf ball pattern and functional perforations that ensure sufficient air circulation.

RESULT

In the final version, it was decided to abandon the perforation as unnecessary.

Designed to be mounted on the Geoscan Gemini drone with tilt adjustment up to 48°.

The pattern remains hidden when the camera is pointing down, but becomes visible when the camera is tilted, which subtly emphasizes attention to detail and enhances visual consistency with the drone.
