Rex is the first Russian robotic dog whose body is made entirely of composite materials.
In 8 weeks, based on the existing hardware base, it was necessary to develop a design and manufacture a pre-production working prototype of a robot dog. The design had to be flawless, and the prototype had to withstand possible falls of the robot dog during maneuvers.
We study existing products and concepts online to get a complete picture of their capabilities, applications, designs, trends and the latest advances in this field.
We are studying analogues of robo-dogs in the field.
Developing a mood board to determine the visual characteristics of the robot.
Smooth surfaces – Transport aesthetics – One-piece shape
Due to the tight deadlines, after several sketches and determining the general direction of the design, we move on to CAD design.
We decide to develop a design for composite production in connection with the ambitious goals and deadlines of the project.
We use VR to discuss the design with engineers and get the customer’s approval.
We clarify design details such as the battery hole, LED lights,
Intel Real Sense camera location, leg mobility, etc.
Determine the name of the dog and develop graphics.
We check the design in VR for the final approval of the design and the choice of material, color and finish of the prototype.
We visit the composite production, choose carbon and alutex for the manufacture of the prototype.
Together with a team of engineers, we develop a structural frame, metal and plastic mounts for motors,
LEDs and cameras.
The production of composite, metal and plastic components is carried out.
A circuit programmer develops electronics.
Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, the startup ceased its activities before the full completion of the project,
but below you can see its digital result.
CMF, inspired by the CEO’s Ford Mustang car.
Under the art direction of Rodion Usaev, Simon Chukov developed an animated CG short film and visualizations.
