Ambient Kitchen is IED’s graduation project for the Italian premium kitchen brand Schiffini.
The aim of the project was to shift the focus from the interior to the exterior and to design a very comfortable, aesthetic and multifunctional outdoor kitchen that enhances the quality of a modern lifestyle and is in line with the values of the brand.
Together, we decided to focus on a cuisine that satisfies not only the need to cook and eat, but also the desire to have a great time and socialize with friends and family.

Location of use and target audience
The kitchen on the terrace does not have only one location. It can be used on the terrace of the house, on rooftops, on large balconies, by the pool or in other places where there is enough space, fresh air and sun.
Eating out
At the same time, most outdoor kitchens serve as cooking tools. Their creators do not take into account that people use such kitchens for special events and communication during cooking and eating.
Conceptual design
The island’s format encourages joint cooking, and the perimeter drawers open from all sides.
In this way, everyone at the kitchen will be able to participate in the cooking process.
A shelf for dishes is attached to the kitchen. It can be used to transfer dishes from the house to the terrace and vice versa. And all this without any haste.
A pull-out swivel table is built into the kitchen, thanks to which it becomes not only the center of cooking, but also the epicenter of entertainment.
Movable coffee tables with a convenient storage system are built into the kitchen and can be easily removed from the front and back.
If necessary, they can be removed from the kitchen and taken aside so that people can put food and drinks on them, as well as sit comfortably next to them without crowding around.
In addition, the pull-out tables have a couple of interesting features – inside they have ottomans that can be removed to sit comfortably next to the tables, and, as a bolder option, you can purchase a special version of the table with a small hearth.
A built-in light can help create a special atmosphere when it gets darker outside.
A compact and more affordable kitchen option is suitable for people with limited outdoor space. While the larger version uses Corian Super Black for the kitchen worktop, the compact version uses Fixrete cement coating.
